Hahahaha, so those deaths were user errors and they should be blamed for what happened and it was a bad design, seriously mate give it up and just admit a stop button MIGHT have saved their lives
I accept that someone has to be alert enough to use it but it's a step in the right direction
"Clothing will not cause enough resistance to trip the overload or limit switches. User error."
Haha fucking ha
You can spew out all your fucking maintenance speak, when it's quite obvious, that by STOPPING the machinery should be the first step when someone is in trouble on ANY machinery
RIP to all those that died

Are we still allowed to say Chinaman/Chinawoman?
Isn't that a hate crime these days?

Coff, there are hazards and risks.
There is a system of hierarchy of control used globally to either remove or reduce these risks.
Eliminate Reduce Isolate Control PPE Discipline
Your cases and my comments;
Earlier this year, six-year-old Nurhayada Sofia died at a shopping centre in Malaysia when she fell five floors having being dragged over the edge by an escalator.
Poor design, unsupervised children on an escalator.
Last year mother of two Naima Rharouity died when she fell while travelling on an escalator in Montreal. A piece of clothing got stuck in the mechansim and tightened around her neck, strangling her.
Clothing will not cause enough resistance to trip the overload or limit switches. User error.
And in 2003, Professor Sally Baldwin, from York, died when the escalator she was using at a railway station in Rome collapsed and trapped her in the cogwheels.
Barriers were removed by persons unknown, panels had been removed by maintenance workers and not replaced safely (hence the barriers). Again human error. An operative hit the stop button but it was too late.
So, the technology wasn't the issue in any of the above, just human errors.

Dunno what clip version you've seen but the one I saw the woman that tried to help her actually sort of made it worse. The poor victim had 2 hands holding herself up only for the helper to take off one hand and hold it, then let go. She couldn't support herself with one hand and dropped. That said the other woman did nothing, in shock I imagine. At least the other woman whipped the 2yo away from danger and then tried to do assist the victim.

I just pointed out two cases where your fucking overload system never worked, whereas a simple stop button might have
I know you work in building maintenance but not many tower blocks have escalators, most have lifts and in any case, your average maintenance man wouldn't have to work on them, you call in the OEMs to fix them

Coff, I work in mechanical and electrical maintenance.
The motor is either at the top of the escalator or at the bottom and can be at either end.
Motors on escalators and lifts have over-run, over-current and other limit switches that will cut power to the motor.
If a human body fell into the gear mechanism, the motor that drives those gears would encounter a mechanical resistance which would make the motor work harder, this increase in work rate would most likely cause either the over current device to trip the motor or kill power to the entire escalator.

Rios, you don't fucking know the mechanism involved in this case, stop pretending you're an expert on everything, a stop button MIGHT have saved her life

Three examples of people dying on escalators:
Earlier this year, six-year-old Nurhayada Sofia died at a shopping centre in Malaysia when she fell five floors having being dragged over the edge by an escalator.
Last year mother of two Naima Rharouity died when she fell while travelling on an escalator in Montreal. A piece of clothing got stuck in the mechansim and tightened around her neck, strangling her.
And in 2003, Professor Sally Baldwin, from York, died when the escalator she was using at a railway station in Rome collapsed and trapped her in the cogwheels.
Fucking overload mechanism never helped her did it and in two of the cases, a timely stop, may have saved their lives?

Coff, it wouldn't have helped in this instance.
The victim and her child trod on a steel cover plate that had not been re-secured following maintenance work. She fell into the void but managed to push her child clear.
Even if it was just an inspection pit it would be quite deep. Hitting an emergency stop may not have helped in this instance.

In ANY case a stop button at the top and bottom should have been there, I notice they have them on the underground ones, maybe H&S doesn't require them in China

Re: China woman dies after falling into escalator

Coff, depends on which escalator was installed.
If the motor was at the bottom, then the void under the plate may have been quite deep.
Truly hope she wasn't dragged in to the gear mechanism, would have been a horrific death as the motors have limit switches and over current protection so once an obstacle is dragged in, the motor will cut out to avoid damage to itself.

To be fair, in my experience, Chinese/Asian women are the most brainless no-common-sense spastics to ever walk this planet so I'm not suprised they didn't help her.

What, are you kidding me, she probably got chewed up by the mechanical parts, and even if she didn't, stopping the thing would have made sense.
you know they have stop buttons on the tube don't you?

She fell down a hole cough, I'm not sure what stopping the escalator would have done to prevent that
